Tingkat Penerapan Biosekuriti pada Peternakan Ayam Broiler di Kota Ternate, Maluku Utara
Abstrak
Biosecurity is the first line of defense against disease on poultry farms, yet its implementation on small commercial broiler farms in island regions has rarely been quantified. This study assessed the level of biosecurity implementation on broiler farms in Ternate City, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. A descriptive survey was carried out from 11 January to 11 March 2021 using structured questionnaires, direct observation, and interviews with five farmers selected purposively (flock size above 500 birds, in production, and accessible). Fifteen indicators in six aspects (chick source, nuisance animals, visitors and workers, sick or dead birds, housing, and waste) were scored on a three-point Likert scale (good = 3, fair = 2, poor = 1). The total score was 192 out of 225 (85.3%), which falls in the good category (176–225). Chick source, handling of sick or dead birds, and housing reached the maximum score, waste management was good (80.0%), whereas control of visitors and workers (71.1%) and of nuisance animals (63.3%) was only fair. Control of people and animals entering the farm is the main gap. Low-cost operational measures should be strengthened through extension services.
