PERKEMBANGAN PENGOLAHAN SAGU DI DESA SAWANGAKAR KECAMATAN BOTANG LOMANG KABUPATEN HALMAHERA SELATAN 1980-2022

ABSTRACT

This research aims to determine the history of the development of sago stem processing in Sawangakar Village, Botang Lomang District (1980-2022). Sago is a type of plant that grows naturally in plain or swamp areas with abundant water sources. Sago trees can be used as food for local communities. The aim of this research is to determine the history of the development of sago processing, the factors that influence sago production, and the impact of the sago processing industry on the lives of the people of Sawangakar Village. This research uses a historical method which consists of four stages including heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. Primary data used as main data in this research is interview data. The source of informants was sago craftsmen in Sawangakar Village. The research results show that the history of the development of sago processing started from 1980-2000 where sago processing was carried out traditionally. Meanwhile, in 2000-2022, sago processing will be carried out in a modern way. Factors that influence sago production include capital, raw materials, production process, production results/products, and marketing. The impact of the presence of the sago processing industry on the social and economic life of the people of Sawangakar Village includes changes in the level of community education, changes in people's thinking patterns, opening up job opportunities for the people of Sawangakar Village, opening up business opportunities for the people of Sawangakar Village by developing innovation, and improving the welfare of the people of Sawangakar Village so that can support their families and send their children to college.
