Abstract

The research was conducted in Sayoang Village, East Bacan District, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. The study was planned to span one month, encompassing the stages of preparation, data collection, data processing, analysis, and report writing. The study population consisted of 41 respondents from the Sayoang village community. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The analysis stages included: checking data completeness; scoring respondents' answers; tabulating data using Microsoft Excel; calculating the mean value and percentage for each indicator; presenting data in tables and graphs; and drawing conclusions based on the analysis results. The study aimed to analyze community perceptions and participation regarding forest conservation, as well as the factors influencing these perceptions and participation regarding mangrove forest conservation in Sayoang Village.

Analysis of the research findings indicates that public perception regarding mangrove forest conservation in Sayoang Village falls within the "good" to "very good" range. The highest rating—89% (very good)—was recorded for the indicator concerning the ecological functions of the mangrove forest. Conversely, the lowest rating—67% (good)—was associated with the statement regarding the village government's active role in preserving the forest. Regarding community participation in conservation efforts, the highest score (87%, very good) was found for opposition to activities that damage the mangrove forest, followed by support for village government regulations on mangrove protection (86%, very good). These results demonstrate a high level of community awareness regarding the importance of mangrove forest preservation and support for protection policies. Meanwhile, the lowest participation rates were 64% (good) for general involvement and 67% (good) for participation in mangrove conservation outreach activities. Public perception and participation regarding mangrove forest conservation are influenced by several interconnected factors. These include the community's level of knowledge regarding the functions and benefits of mangrove forests, environmental awareness, village government support through protection policies, opportunities to engage in conservation activities, and the community's sense of responsibility for natural resource sustainability. The more favorable these factors are, the more positive the public perception and the higher the level of community participation in supporting mangrove forest conservation in Sayoang Village.
