Abstract

Local wisdom is an important pedagogical resource that connects learning to students’ cultural backgrounds while supporting the preservation of cultural heritage. Although research in this field is expanding, its overall structure and direction have not been mapped over a longer period using science-mapping techniques. This study analyses 544 Scopus-indexed documents (2015-2025; retrieved on 4 October 2025 with the term “local AND wisdom; AND education”), using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix. The results show that annual output reached a first peak in 2020, declined in 2021-2022, and rose to its highest level in 2025, although the 2025 count reflects partial-year data. The Journal of Physics: Conference Series was the most productive source (57 documents). Indonesia accounted for approximately 92% of documents by corresponding-author affiliation, mostly single-country publications, indicating limited international co-authorship. This concentration may partly reflect the term-specific search. Early topics (biodiversity, local knowledge, school-level teaching) have recently been joined by ethnoscience, cultural identity, design research, and augmented reality, with ethnoscience positioned as a motor theme. These findings indicate a growing field that is domestically concentrated and reliant on conference proceedings. Future research should strengthen international collaboration, systematically review evidence on emerging ethnoscience and technology-based topics, and broaden the search beyond a single database and term, including co-authorship analysis.
